A Study on Post Intervention Program of Suicide

Abstract
Objective£ºThis study examines the changes in mental health of students by the post intervention program of suicide introduced after the suicide cases in elementary, middle, and high schools in Seoul.

Method : From 2011 to 2014 October, 533 students experienced in the post intervention program of suicide(called "the embracement of hope") have been selected from 15 elementary, middle, and high schools. The descriptive statistics analysis is performed with SPSS 18.0 focusing on the Impact of Event Scale-Revised Korean version (IES-R-K) and the Subjective Units of Distress Scale. Those scales were appled in performing the school-based suicide prevention program "The embracement of hope".

Result : For subscales of IES-R-K, most students in elementary, middle, and high schools show the highest degree in Avoidance, the second highest degree in Intrusion, and the lowest degree in Hyperarousal. The average of boys are little higher than girls¡¯. For Subjective Units of Distress Scale, there is a positive change; the average at the end of program is lower than at the first exposure to the ases.

Conclusion : The program is helpful to examine the mental health of students, the possible victim of psychological trauma after suicide cases in school, and to stabilize function of the school.
